Why does my mom think my confederate flag is racist?

ik that the KKK uses it but its also flown on government buildings in mississippi and texas. it stands for southern pride and unity. not racism. people just interpreted it wrong. i bought this in washington d.c. so i don't see how its disrespect to our nation. its respecting a certain part of it. anyways what do you guys think about it?
